The Flatliner

Wintertime anglers no longer need to freeze their fingertips off while waiting for a bite. With the Flatliner tip-up rig, an ice fishing line can be set and left until the bite comes — allowing anglers to warm their hands, enjoy their coffee, or work setting another pole. Weekend anglers will like the ease of use, while there are plenty of features for tournament professionals.

Removable Fishing Pole With Tip-Up Rig

Professional fisherman Thomas Groth has created the first-ever removable fishing pole that has a tip-up rig. While the engineered setup has year-round use, its main benefit comes when ice fishing during winter.

Easy Enough for New Ice Fishing Anglers to Use

The fishing line is run through the rig’s locking hook, and a trigger pin is set. The line is then set up as normal, placing supplied bobber stop and release on the line before dropping it into the hole. The added step is simple enough that anyone who knows how to cut a hole in the ice will be able to set up the Flatliner in minutes (at most).

Once the pole is set, anglers ice fish as normal but with their hands-free. Set the depth, and move onto the next pole or pull out that book to read.

When there’s a bite, the audible indicator or alarm spheres will automatically trigger. The trigger pin falls out, allowing the line to free spool as the fish takes the bate. Grab the rod, set the hook, and reel in the catch. Hopefully a cleaning and dinner follow.

Advanced Features for Experienced Ice Fishers

This is no beginner-only rig, though. Groth is a professional ice fishing angler, and knows the features that professionals want.

He’s engineered the Flatliner to have 4 trigger positions, 10 trigger settings, quick adjustments, a simple release, and be portable.

Bring the Flatliner to Market

The ice fishing market is large, and everyone cutting a hole would like a tip-up rig for their rods. Many people on the ice would purchase one, and most anglers would get multiple for their various rods.

To further expand the market, a tip-up rig like this could also have benefit when surf fishing, bay fishing, casting or line fishing during the warmer months. There’s an immediate market for winter, and then a broader potential one for continued growth.
